Get into your 'Vegas Mode'

Get into your 'Vegas Mode'

Imagine playing with the bank's money in Vegas. Lots of fun, and you just can't lose. It's a feeling I call 'Vegas Mode'.

It's your optimum state. That perfect zone you occasionally get into when you know you're doing great, everything goes right and you just can't lose.

  • You're on a roll.
  • You feel like you can do anything.
  • You're relaxed about the outcome.
  • You're firmly in the present.
  • You feel awesome.

We've all had it in the past. Whether it's doing well at work, winning at sport, making confident decisions, enjoying life in a carefree way, or yes, hitting a great run on the roulette table, every once in a while we hit Vegas Mode. And when we do, it's a lot of fun.

But how can we get into the elusive Vegas Mode more often? (Like preferably this week, right?)

'Vegas Mode' Tony Wrighton blog

Yep, the problem is, it's sometimes easier said than done. So over the next few days, we're going to use a tried and tested NLP technique to get us into Vegas Mode. Do this:

  1. Think of a time when you felt on top of the world, like you just couldn't lose.
  2. Now think of a different time when you felt totally carefree.
  3. Now think of a different time when you had incredible fun.

With each instance, close your eyes and really associate with the memory. See what you saw, hear what you heard, and feel exactly the way you felt at the time. At the moment you most associate with that memory, pick up a coin (any coin) and squeeze with your thumb and forefinger for a few seconds. If you've got a roulette chip, so much the better.

Take twenty seconds for each memory. First do 1. Then 2 and 3. Repeat if you want to really supercharge this feeling.

Then, carry that coin around with you this week. Put it in your pocket, or somewhere safe. This is the NLP technique known as anchoring. It's simple, and effective. Every time you touch your coin with your thumb and forefinger, you'll be in Vegas Mode.

And who knows what might happen.

Tony Wrightonps - 'playing with the bank's money in Vegas' was golfer John Huston's line after an incredible round on the PGA Tour. "It feels like playing with the bank's money in Vegas", he said, "you just don't feel like you can lose". It's featured in a book I'm reading at the moment by Gio Valiante. Recommended.
