It's just a blip
How to get over setbacks.
I like the word blip. It implies that everything will be fine, and that this is just a small, temporary setback. It's just an insignificant hiccup on the road to success.
Here's my point. When I got ill earlier this year, someone very wise told me when I was feeling bad I should view it as a blip not a crash. I loved that, and it made a big change to how I thought about the times when I wasn't feeling very well. Of course it can apply to anything...
And when a blip comes along, we need some wise words to overcome it. I used this quote from a former US president recently, And I reckon that very same quote is relevant again today.
Calvin Coolidge said,
"If I had permitted my failures, or what seemed to me at the time a lack of success, to discourage me I cannot see any way in which I would ever have made progress."
So if things aren't going your way I'd like you to see this column as a rallying call. See your current circumstances as a little blip, and hopefully history will judge this moment as a hiccup, not a cock up.
