Motivated and Fit
Last week I presented some Ping Pong for Sky. Not a sport which is televised that often - but perhaps it should be because it was really quite a thriller of a weekend.
As well as truly enjoying all the action, I found the ping pong players quite inspirational. The prize money for Ping Pong is not the same as some of the top sports, and so many of them seem to have retained that simple joy of playing the sport they love. They just do it for the passion for their sport, and a desire to be the best at what they do. Very inspiring. As a result I was motivated to go and play a couple of times last week at the bar called Bounce in London (featured image above), which is excellent and I recommend.
But yes, the eagle-eyed amongst you may notice a glass of wine next to the table, so let's move onto a couple of ideas for getting motivated and fit in 2014 (with ways that don't involve going to a bar at the same time!) I'm not - obviously - going to give you a fitness plan, but here are a couple of thoughts that might help your motivation levels if;
- you intend to get fit in 2014 and you've already started on it.
- you really really want to hit the gym / go for a run / whatever, but it's just not quite happening yet because while you want to, you also, uh, kinda can't be bothered.
My local gym has been rather busier than usual this week. Thousands of eager beavers sweating and straining on the treadmills, trying to work off those extra pounds caused by too many Celebrations over Christmas (my fave - the big Malteser thingys). But next month, and the month after that, I think I can predict what will happen. Attendance will start to drop off. Many will slowly forget about their New Year’s Resolution to get fit and healthy. Others will feel less motivated than they did - after all a gym workout is often a bit less fun than a box of Celebrations. By Christmas 2014, the regulars will have the gym to themselves again.
It's so hard isn't it, to stay motivated. Here's one way you can do it.
This is a cunning plan which basically pretty much tricks the brain into thinking you're enjoying it, even when you're not.
You act as if you're already totally motivated. (Even if you're not).
