Great sportsmen and women, and NBD Theory
Great sportsmen and women train all their lives for a few big moments. But if in those moments they start for remind themselves of the enormity of the occasion, the pressure can become too much. Instead - they stick to their regular routine. NBD (No Big Deal). So here's my NBD Theory. What happens when you quit worrying? What happens when you stop caring so much? What happens when you take a pause, smile, and say to yourself, "it'll all be okay - it's just another day. NBD."
Big tournament coming up? NBD Big meeting coming up? NBD Big date coming up? NBD Big speech coming up? NBD Feeling nervous about something/anything? NBD
Often (but not always), when you deliberately take the emotion out of things you are worrying about, it might help you to focus on the process and just get on with it. It can feel artificial at first, but it works.
