Sparkle! (Or How to get a bit more balance)

Okay, let's start this week's 1-minute blog with two questions. Question 1: How busy are you? (Answer: Probably 'very'). Question 2: Do you manage to devote at least a small chunk of time each day to these three areas?

a) Your work, your goals, or your purpose. b) Exercise. c) Leisure, or relaxation time.

If you are very busy, but all your time is spent scurrying around a); working, looking after children, whatever it may be, perhaps ask yourself how can you make time for yourself? How could you make small but significant chunks of personal time in the b) and c) areas? It might make you feel better, happier, more energetic and balanced, and generally more chilled. And that would probably be when you start to sparkle.*

Incidentally, Rolling Stone and New York Times author Neil Strauss says your mood and confidence will be improved by focusing on five areas daily: Work, Physical, Social, Creativity or Education and Relaxation. That makes sense too.

*Of course, this is just one way of looking at balance. If you've got a different way, that's great (and can you share the secret here?). Something to consider is Tim Ferriss' way, in his book The 4 Hour Work Week. One of the many theories in the book looks at zeroing in on your goals by 'working less'. For me, that means cutting out distractions when I'm focusing hard (bye bye iPhone, Facebook, Twitter, unnecessary emails, etc), and then freeing up some more time for exercise, fun, socialising, thinking, reading, creating, and a bit more balance.
