What are betterisms, and how can you use them?

[1 minute self-development] This blog features betterisms. Yep, it’s one of my made up words. Betterisms are the questions you ask when something goes wrong.

Don’t say – what went wrong, but ask a betterism instead – “how it could be better in future”?

In this way, you reframe something that was ‘bad’, into something that you can learn from.

For instance, Roland Macy couldn’t have made a success of Macys store in New York if he hadn’t learnt how to do better from his seven previous failed shops. He learnt from his mistakes, and made it better.

You get things right, by analysing what went wrong. So start using betterisms today.
